I`ve been there a few times during the weekends. The location is at the heart of notthinghillgate right below
the gate cinema.allthough they serve food i`ve only been there to get a drink or two.
+ There is allways great music during weekends, excellent martinis, good atmosphere!
- There is very little bass in the music, drinks are a bit pricy
still i recommend it as it is the best bar(bar-clubb thing) in NottinghillGATE!
sturt price

I used to go here regulary 2003/2004 and it was great . Don't know if owners/ management have changed since then but the place is now dire and best avoided . As well as drinks being extortionately over-priced , the sound system is crap. But worst of all ;when I went there last week on a "punk/indie night " ( according to flyer ) the place was full of Hooray Henries in suits and ties . Could this by any chance be due to the fact that the pretentious maite d* was standing outside and ordering the bouncer not to let in denim-clad indie fans and supplicating instead to the suit and tie brigade ? This place is best avoided . Save your time and money and go to the reliable Notting Hill Arts Club ( just down the road ) instead .
p.s. I know that I only got in cause I was accompanied by a tart in short skirt .

Having spent most of the night searching for a place that could make a martini without asking if it was actual Martini that we wanted, a nearby pub bouncer pointed us in the direction of The Gate. We had nothing to lose.

As we descended, we could hear some wonderful retro tunes and was greeted by a beautiful, yet small, bar and dance floor. The decor was enough to let us know we were in the right place.

We asked the bartendress if she could make a proper martini. She seemed offended but also happy to have customers who cared... Just watching her make the martini was a privilege. The process was the greatest combination of art meets science. And the result was THE GREATEST MARTINI EVER MADE.

No kidding. This martini was worth the wait... not just the wait during that evening, but in my life. My friend and I were delighted.

We found the booth in the corner and were able to visit and enjoy the entire ambiance of the place.

Yes, the martinis were also the most expensive I've ever seen. But well worth it... and the price did not discourage us from having another.

Love the joint... and it's been over a years since I've been there....

What did I think of the Gate Bar? Well lemme see....the drink prices were slightly extortionate and the sound system wasn't the greatest I've ever heard. I wanted to be compelled to dance but quite frankly the bassline just wasn't enough to make me get jiggy.

Not really my cup of tea.
