Q&a
Mensah is a relatively new shop on the Portobello road selling unique styles and vintage clothing. We spoke to the Part-Owner, Herbie, about what’s on offer.
How long have the shop been going for?
We opened the week before Christmas, just over a month and a bit now.
How’s business?
Yeah, it’s going good. Business is especially brisk on the weekend. We’ve had a lot of positive feedback
What to you sell the most of?
Well, we’re a mix of new contemporary designers, not those in the mainstream, but up and coming ones, and vintage stuff which obviously goes well with the market. We have a good team of international designers, including Dutch knits and cashmere.
Do you specialise in anything?
No, not really, we have a good mix of everything. We’ve got classic designs from the 70’s and 80’s, even Victorian stuff.
Are you a Notting Hill resident yourself?
You could say so; I live in Kensal Green.
Where are your favourite places in Notting Hill?
Well the Portobello Market, which is great. I like vintage stuff and there’s a lot of that there, it’s wonderful. I like the Thai Rice and the Falafel King, I frequent the Bed bar. I’ve been living round here and partying around here for quite a while now.
Any plans to expand the shop?
If it goes well, then yeah sure! It’d be nice to have a few more shops.
What sort of people do you get in?
A complete mixture of customers - Our customer base is extremely diverse we welcome everyone in our special "Mensah" way - We don’t try to sell to just one market, we’ve got something for everyone.
