Mel Sykes and Des O’Connor will be taking on the might of Richard and Judy. The ITV lunchtime pairing are to move to a new slot at 5pm, meaning that beauty and the beast will be going up against TV talk legends Richard and Judy every week day. Mel has told press how excited she is about the move "I am delighted. I’m particularly pleased because my parents will be back home from work by that time and be able to watch the show!" The new show will launch on January 10th 2005 - don’t forget to tune in Mel fans!

Melanie’s baby - August 03
Melanie Sykes has given birth to a son, Valentino Luca.

The TV presenter told press she and husband Daniel Caltirigone are "over the moon" after the birth in a Paddington hospital. The couple already have one son, Roman, who Melanie says is "thrilled to have a little brother to play with". Melanie will return to work, presenting Today With Des and Mel alongside Des O’Connor in the autumn.

Melanie Sykes has reportedly signed a £250,000-a-year deal with ITV to be the new face of Saturday night TV.

It’s believed she will host a new primetime series called Under Pressure, and is also in talks to present a Blind Date-style show to be screened next year.

Under Pressure features a celebrity living with an ordinary family for a week.

ITV’s controller of daytime, Liam Hamilton, has commissioned a second series of Today With Des and Mel.

The programme is broadcast on ITV1 from 13:00 to 14:00 Monday to Friday and has proved very popular with the lunchtime audience. Hosted by Des O’Conner and Melanie Sykes, the programme is broadcast live.

I reported that Melanie Sykes secretly got engaged to her boyfriend actor Daniel Caltagirone, well the latest is that they are now married. The pair secretly snuck away to the Caribbean where they wed with no one but hotel guests to witness the ceremony. The pair exchanged gold rings under a palm tree, the pair had been dating for seven months.

Melanie Sykes has landed Denise Van Outen’s job on the Big Breakfast. Mel will be part of a new team of five on the channel 4 show. She will star alongside newcomers Paul Tonkinson and Amanda Byram and current favourites Donna Air and Richard Bacon. Mel impressed bosses when she was guest presenter on the show last year, the downside of her job will be leaving fiancé Daniel Caltagirone, tucked up in bed.

Lock, Stock telly star Daniel Caltagirone popped the question after just six months of dating. Former Big Breakfast Mel, who shot to fame in the Boddingtons TV adverts said yes and the pair are hoping to marry next year.

Mel was once quoted as saying "I was a loose cannon, out and about doing what single girls do, but now I’m in bed by 10pm with a book." Only not alone now, hunky Dan should keep you warm.
