Spice Girl Geri visits stabbed girl - Jan 27 2008

Spice Girl Geri Halliwell took time out from her busy schedule to pay a hospital visit to a 14-year-old girl who was stabbed up to 30 times in a park.

Geri dropped in to see Jessica Knight in the intensive care unit at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital, Pendlebury.

Jessica was attacked as she walked through a park in Astley Village, near Chorley, Lancashire.

The singer stayed for more than 30 minutes and chatted to Jessica who remains in a critical but stable condition, Lancashire Police said.

Jessica's parents, Richard Knight and Jill Walmsley, said she had responded to the Spice Girl's surprise visit by moving her legs and arms.

They previously revealed she was communicating with them by wiggling her toes.

Mr Knight said: "We were delighted when Geri agreed to come and visit Jessica and she was really generous with her time. Although Jess is unable to speak at the moment you could tell she was really excited as she kept moving her arms and her legs as Geri was talking to her. She is a big Spice Girls fan and I'm sure this will help her on her road to recovery."

The group is performing a string of sell-out dates at Manchester's MEN Arena.

A man was remanded in custody at Chorley Magistrates' Court charged with the attempted murder of Jessica.

Kristofer Beddar, 21, of Daisy Hill Drive, Adlington, Lancashire, is due to appear at Preston Crown Court on February 4.

Mel and Geri on eating disorders - Jan 4 2008
It seems Mel C and Geri Halliwell have spoken about the weight troubles they suffered from during the height of the Spice Girls’ popularity.

According to Digital Spy, Mel C, who suffered from anorexia during the band’s rise to fame, claimed that she over-exercised.

Sporty Spice - whose real name is Melanie Chisholm - apparently told US television: "My biggest, biggest fear... was that the papers were going to say I’d put on weight.

"I wasn’t eating properly and I was over-exercising. I was very skinny."

Meanwhile Ginger Spice Geri apparently said she was upset by her "podge spice" label.

She said: "I was called podge spice. I was the fat, dumpy one."

The pair, who both had successful solo careers after the band members went their separate ways in 2000, are currently enjoying a reunion tour with the rest of the group.

Geri’s health regime - Dec 19 2007

Geri Halliwell is apparently munching garlic, carrots and beetroot to boost her immune system - so she’s in tip top shape throughout the Spice Girls’ tour.

The 35-year-old mum hopes the tour will restart her pop career and wants to make sure she’s fighting fit so the group’s fans get a good show, reports the Daily Express.

A source said: "The fans mean so much to her and she is scared about letting them down if she were to get ill. She wants to perform to the best of her ability every night."

And to keep herself in perfect condition, Ginger Spice has apparently been doing more than an hour of yoga every day.

The source added: "She’s very aware that even the slightest hint of a cold could keep her from performing and has been obsessively saying to people ’Don’t let me get ill’.

Biography

Born Geraldine Estelle Halliwell on 6th August 1972 in Watford, London, Geri Halliwell is best known as Ginger Spice but in fact started her career long before she joined the Spice Girls - working as a topless prize girl on Turkish TV.

In the 1990s Geri became one fifth of the worlds biggest girl band and has never looked back. Along with Mel B, Emma, Mel C and Victoria, she scored some of the biggest hits of the decade, made a feature film and raked in the cash through sponsorship deals. But in May ’98 Geri made the shock announcement that she was to leave the band to persue a solo career.

She sold her Spice clothes to raise more than $200,000 for a cancer charity, journeyed to Uganda for Comic Relief, was appointed a Goodwill Ambassador by the United Nations, and even got to sing "Happy Birthday" to the future king of England, Prince Charles.

Nearly a year after her departure from the Spice Girls, Halliwell released her debut solo album, Schizophonic, whose sound is a self-described cross between "Julie Andrews and Johnny Rotten." The album, released on Capitol Records, contained Halliwell’s first single, "Look at Me." which went to number 2 in the charts. She followed up the success of Schizophonic with Scream If You Want To Go Faster in 2001. After going solo, Geri moved to LA, formed an unlikely close relationship with George Michael and told all to the press about her eating disorders after losing an incredible amount of weight and releasing two yoga videos.
