Hundreds of children from all across London came to Kensington Memorial Park adorned with glitter, sequins and beads in celebration of the Children’s Nursery Carnival 21st anniversary on Monday 10th August.

With only a few weeks to go till Notting Hill Carnival the children of all ages gathered in park where the theme of the day’s festivities was ‘Musical Mayhem Part Two’ which followed on from last year. This inspired the children’s eclectic hand-made costumes with colourful musical instruments and face painting.

Event organiser Charlotte Woolford, said: "The event was a great success, and despite the typical British weather, it brought a tropical ray of sunshine into the heart of the capital."

The event also included many competitions including steel band gala and a glamorous mother and baby contest.

The CSI band Trust, Croydon Steel Orchestra and the Harlow Steel band, three young steel bands, participated in the Junior Panorama competition.  Each performed a composition after months of preparation.

The Nursery Carnival is organised by the Children and Parents Carnival Association (CAPCA).  It began as a relatively small date on a school calendar and is now a prominent part of the carnival season.

Notting Hill Carnival’s Lead Director, Chris Boothman, said: "The Nursery Carnival is part of a range of exciting family events taking place in the lead up to the Notting Hill Carnival.

"In these tough economic times the carnival allows both children and parents enjoy a free event with a feel-good happy atmosphere."
